Macaws, aah, my favorite!! I own a Blue and Gold, and he is the greatest. Macaws are the largest out of all the pet parrots. Greenwings, Blue and Golds, and Militaries make great pets. Scarlets are more on the temperamental side, but still, how can you refuse those beautiful colors? Macaws can be quite a handful, and if you are considering owning one, consider the following: .....do I have enough room for one of these guys, and am I intimidated by the size of that beak?
They do require a large cage, the larger the better. And if you're afraid of getting bit by one, this is not the bird for you. Macaws (or any parrot for that matter) can sense fear. If you're afraid of them, they'll know it and play on it. Macaws can be great family pets, they do have their favorite person, but will go to other family members. They usually are good eaters, will try anything. My Vergil loves pizza and spaghetti. He is a pretty good talker, too. He says about 15 to 20 different things, likes to take showers, and enjoys his peanuts.
